2008 to Present - Healthvantage Advisors                       
Work with healthcare consulting firms to perform various management, operational improvement and strategic projects.  Most recently worked with executives and private physician from concept to implementation of a hospital based Nurse Midwife Practice.  Operational issues typically focus on process redesign and labor optimization.  Management issues revolve around assessment, education and mentoring of current management teams.


2006 to 2008 - Insight Advantage Healthcare Firm, Houston, Texas              
Healthcare consulting firm addressed difficult operational issues typically focused on process redesign and labor optimization.  Clients range from large public multi-system institutions to small, private clinics.  Successful in maximizing their clients’ functional capacity and improving their return on investment.  Firm dissolved in 2008.

Project Director:  Management and coordination of all aspects of the project from the operations to budget including oversight of up to 6 senior consultants and data analysis on-site.  Function in various capacities from front-line analysis and facilitator, interim manager, coach, mentor and advisor for mid-level management to the Executive Team.   

Accomplishments include development of management education program, successful process flow changes in the Outpatient Clinics, Surgical Services and the Emergency Department. She also restructured and implemented process changes to the Credentialing and Medical Affairs department.

1998 to 2000 - Independent Consultant                          
Appeal reviews short term and long term disability claims for medical and technical issues. Completes evaluation of claim file and makes determination of status, composes claimant letter and consults with Appeal Director.
 
2000 to 2005 - Florida Hospital, Orlando, Florida                        
Florida Hospital is an acute-care health care system with 3,025 beds throughout the 7-campus’ in Central Florida.  Florida Children’s Hospital is a hospital-within-a-hospital with 131 beds including 40- bed Med/Surg/Onc Unit, 20-bed ICU/PCU, 28-bed SCN, 33-bed NICU, and 10-bed Out-Patient Unit

System Director of the Florida Children’s Hospital        
Responsible for the operations including budget development and management, capital planning, resource management and utilization of the 131 beds.  Direct oversight of 300 FTE’s including the Child Life Team and Emergency Transport Team.  System-wide responsibility included clinical care of all pediatric patients throughout 6 additional hospitals in the Florida Hospital system, including 30 additional inpatient pediatric beds, emergency room and a large outpatient population.  Florida Children’s Hospital had a net revenue of $83.5 million and Operating Expenses of $66.5 million.

Administrative Manager, PICU and Pediatric Units               
Management responsibility for a very busy units with an 85 to 90% occupancy rate.  This included a 38 bed Pediatric Inpatient Unit which provide care for general medical, surgical and hematology/oncology patients and 20 PICU/PCU unit.  Directly supervised over 150 employees including RN’s, Patient Care Techs, Clinical Educators, Bed-Control RN, Unit Secretaries, Child Life Specialists and Equipment Techs.

Accomplishments include: The emphasis on labor management took a department that never hit budget targets to consistently meeting or bettering budget targets 5 yrs in a row.  Agency use was eliminated and staff turnover decreased from > 25% to 11.8%.  Employee Gallup scores improved from 3.67 to 4.02.  Implemented quality and patient safety initiatives included Pediatric asthma CBP and Door to antibiotic initiative. Improved customer loyalty scores in all units.  Facility redesign to increase NICU capacity by 20-bed and changed care model from ward to individual pt. rooms.  20-bed PCU expansion increased pediatric beds by 7. Opened a 2-bed Seizure monitoring unit and 10-bed OP unit.


1996 to 1998 - West Hudson & Co, Inc., Dallas, Texas                    
Senior Management Consultant
Functioned as a front-line consultant and a project lead of the nursing consultants.  Focus was labor management and productivity and process improvements.  Identified, established, and implemented quality measurements and process improvements. Facilitated development and implementation of proactive individualized management systems resulting in measurable cost savings.  Developed computerized tools and systems for reporting to senior administration.

1995 to 1996 - Orlando Health Care Group, Orlando, Florida               
Director, Patient Education
Operational manager of a multi-center department. Strategic planning for expansion of in-house and community level educational programs. Program development and clinical instruction.

1990 to 1993 - Valencia Community College, Orlando, Florida              
Manager, Health Education & Corporate  Accounts
Assisted businesses, industries, and health facilities, identify educational and training needs, designed programs, developed proposals, negotiated contracts, and coordinated educational programs. Identified community needs for professional health care education programs, including marketing and then developed and coordinated the programs. Compiled and maintained budget reports. Established and maintained Florida State Board provider status for nursing and allied health professionals. Recruited and hired adjunct faculty for continuing education programs.

1990 - Arnold Palmer Hospital, Orlando, Florida       
Pediatric Staff RN
Assessment, coordination, and implementation of nursing care for pediatric medical and surgical patients, preceptor for new nurses and students, and performed Charge Nurse duties. 

1985 to 1989 - Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland              
Health Educator
Development and instruction of curriculum for individual and group education programs including Lamaze and Cardiac classes. Development and instruction of staff development programs. Assisted with daily management of clinics.

1978 to 1985 - Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland                
Pediatric Staff RN
Provided direct patient care for pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, obstetrics, gynecology and newborn nursery. Also performed hemophereals, platelet and WBC collections and plasma exchanges for acute and chronic patents, recruited and screened donors, provided patent, family, and community education.
